Quest Development Standards Update

We are modifying our internal standards for all new development to take the server to the next level. In the past we developed the stories and quests as best as could be done at the time with development resources we had. Now, that we have AGhost and possibly several others, we will be adding an additional layer to the conversation/story development part.

1) Moving forwards we will be requiring that most dialogues be more dynamic and give more options when progressing in the campaigns. We will be working in more conversation skills into the dialogues, as well. Development will take a longer, but it will be worth it in the long run.

2) We will be working in chapters to allow for variations in the story where it makes sense. Currently we have full variations for ROT2 chapter 4, 7 and part of Chapter 8. These were done at the party level, but were very hard to do, as we had to do complicated checks to see if everyone took the same path, etc. So to accomplish this, I will be working on a new script library to fully mature this process and allow it to be easily implemented into new development.

3) Lastly, we will be reworking ROT1 Chapters 1-5 to allow for variations in story / alternate paths.

#2 will be a top priority and will postpone CEXP volume 3 development. The technology will used for CEXP volume 3, so it is a predecessor task.

This sounds fantastic.

Though the OC was sloppy about using actual skill rolls vs. skill value vs. skill ranks for various checks, one thing I think worked well was offering different rewards (and/or penalties) for various approaches to a conversation. Much simpler than branching (which means some people can't party together anymore), but still offers some variety.

Agree totally. As I said, we will only do the branching where it makes sense. Like ROT2 c7 and 8.
