Spellmoot continues

Arcane Society members,

Yesterday's spellmoot was very well attended. I need to start taking attendance for these because doing this from memory is faulty - apologies in advance if I've forgotten anyone:

brumm, cMEfaiL, Fan, ihateatarix3000, Naamarikala, Silindlian, samyx

Thanks to everyone for a great time!

The story from yesterday:

In the process of retrieving one of Amon Koul's soul fragments, a new potential threat to Trinity was uncovered. A mysterious old mage, later revealing himself to be none other than Elminster Aumar, brought news to the Society of another rise of the nefarious Netherese. A descendant of Thantul has been in the process of amassing an army of orcs and other deadly enemies. He carved out a huge tract of the Shadowlands and used powerful magic to recreate the floating city of Thultanthar.

Elminster had urged the Arcane Society to deal with this threat immediately but, Thantul wormed his way out of this confrontation even though the Society penetrated his fortress and decimated his guards. In exchange for his life and freedom to continue "studying" the orc race in peace, Thantul provided the Society with one of the soul fragments and information pertaining to the whereabouts of the Drow cultists - the small city of Lith My'athar. The Arcane Society, rightly or wrongly, decided that of the two threats at hand, the Drow pursuit of Amon Koul's soul fragments was the more urgent of these matters to be handled. This pact was sealed with Ahriman Cold's sworn oath to Torm.

Upon receiving this news, Elminster was not pleased with the outcome and despondently left to ponder his next move, the destruction of Myth Drannor at his hand and the "greater good" weighing heavily on his mind. Only time will tell if the Society chose wisely.

NOTE: There will not be a planned Spell Moot this coming Sunday, April 5th as it is Easter Sunday. There may be other events taking place, but not a planned Spell Moot. Apologies in advance, but this seems like a good time for me to take a quick break to recharge as I plan out the next event.

Hi
1- Many thanks for that very nice moment, that plunged us into forgotten realms myth, and gave a sweet additional tabletop/rp flavor to rot
2- I really wish to participate fully to this (blame on you and the arcanists for that) so I formally request this event to be postponed 1h later on regular basis

The soul fragments of Amon Koul have been retrieved after a long and arduous battle with the Drow Cultists. The intrepid heroes of the Arcane Society traveled through Lith My'athar to a nearby castle where the Cultists. Upon arrival, they were immediately assaulted by a well fortified army of Drow Cultists and their Derro Mercenaries. After laying siege to the castle, the AS entered the tower where the High Priestess of the Cult was preparing her next move. The AS met very stiff resistance from Drow Theurges who nearly decimated all AS members in close quarter fighting. Bloodied and humbled, but never deterred, the Society pressed on to their final goal and the Cult has been beaten down... for now.

Meanwhile, the Netherese have broken their promise of not interfering in the affairs of Trinity. King Barrek is very concerned that if not addressed soon, Trinity will be decimated in their wake.

This past Sunday's event was very well-attended and very difficult. Thanks again to everyone!

Well, fellow AS members, it was a bittersweet day today. The Society tracked down Turth Hammerhands, who was purported to have been responsible for creating havoc and death at the Trinity Docks. Turth was found holed out in Stonakor, surrounded by Zhentarim, Derro and Beholder guards. After an intense set of skirmishes to finally reach Turth, he met his demise in a hailstorm of magic missiles. Upon inspecting his body, the Society found that Turth was actually owned by and, presumably under the control of, an abyssal daemon, said daemon perhaps in the guise of someone only known now as "The Instructor." Poor Turth lost his business and now his life. And while the AS was not directly responsible for these losses, we cannot help but think that our involvement in his ill-fated life might have been better served without our involvement.

Next SpellMoot will be May 3rd at 2:00pm EDT.

With a recent spate of raids on the outskirts of Trinity, it is clear that Rasturil Tanthul broke his promise to keep the peace. Among the Netherese Mages that were sent by the Tanthul, there also appeared to be altered and enhanced "super" orcs guarding and protecting the mages who were quick to blast their Weave magic upon a valiant, but often over-matched, Trinity contingent. In the end, Trinity prevailed, but one cannot wonder if the Netherese were just sending in their light forces to test Trinity's resolve in a set of very small skirmishes and that a much larger invasion force will soon be sent. One thing is clear, if these were only small forces, a much larger army could likely devastate Trinity. It will be up to the Arcane Society to find out exactly what level of threat this Tanthul poses.

We had another excellent turnout of Spell Moot this past Sunday and also inducted some new members into the Society!

If there was any doubt as to Tanthul's intentions before, there is none left now. Tanthul sent a full on invasion force to the outskirts of Trinity with the intention of claiming the city as his own. Forewarned of this invasion by Barrek and Elminster, Tanthul's army of orcs and mages were met just outside the city gates in North Trinity by the audacious members of the Arcance Society. The Netherese army advanced on our heroes in three deployments, each wave a seemingly endless number of troops.

The first wave was comprised of orcs, intended no doubt to wear down the resolve of Trinity. It was clear at the beginning that these were no ordinary orcs. The Society soon realized that the product of the experiments they witnessed at Thultanthar were now facing them on the opposite side in battle. Despite being engineered by the Netherese into "super" orcs, this first wave of enemy troops was slowly and methodically dispatched by the intrepid Society.

Soon after catching their breaths, the second wave approached and the elation the Members felt after the first wave soon turned to chaotic disarray. This wave saw still more orcs but now there were also Netherese mages in the battle lines : Necromancers, Conjurers and Theurges. Protected in battle by the orcs, these mages nearly decimated the Society, and it looked as though Trinity's fate hung in the balance, until Torm intervened and aided the Society until they could regroup and devise a more coherent strategy for engaging the enemy. Confidence soon returned, proving to be the tipping point and the second wave of the enemy was soon eliminated.

The Society had little time to bask in their newly bolstered convictions when the third wave appeared, this one comprised mostly of powerful mages with orc archers holding the lines behind them. But the Society, now with a clear understanding of the enemy, engaged with a much clearer purpose. And during this final battle, they even witnessed some very powerful mages retreating, presumably back to Anauroch to meet their fate at the hands of a presumably irate Tanthul.

The two day battle over, the Society members, to the adulation of the Trinity faithful, regrouped back at their hold to discuss what they had learned and how to proceed moving forward. It is one thing to engage such a powerful enemy in the open, but the consideration now is how to confront this enemy in their floating fortress and possibly face the Tanthul himself. Even weakened as they are, the Netherese forces will present a deadly threat. To win, the Society must understand how to penetrate the powerful protections surrounding the enemy troops.
